This makes a cool-effect upright small shrub with lustrous, rather sheeny dark green leaves that complement the creamy green flower buds. These are held in good-sized bell-shaped panicles and remain a feature all through winter. In spring they open to small starry white flowers that are long-lasting. A soothing green groundcover, perhaps beneath showy shrubs, or as a counterpoint to skimmia with red winter buds, or grown in a container to offset others that are very bright! Hint: Most skimmias are either male or female. Both have flowers but only the females have berries. It is necessary to grow both male and female forms to obtain fruits.
